Entropy of the Earth
The work "The Face of the Earth-Gaea" I drew in the distant 2000, for the ecological forum "Planet - our common home".( 65X53 cm, watercolor, ink, tempera, paper). Posters and calendars with the image of the Earth were produced. I was inspired by the Gaia hypothesis, proposed in 1970 by British climatologist James Lovelock in collaboration with American microbiologist Lynn Margulis, according to which the Earth is "a dynamic physiological system that includes the biosphere and has kept our planet in harmony with life for over four billion years". All life on Earth thus forms a vast superorganism - it is called Gaia, after the goddess of Greek mythology who personifies the Earth.
Isn't that a beautiful hypothesis of a living Earth? As an artist, I could not pass by such a possibility not to embody it in my art. But unfortunately, many scientists take this hypothesis as a beautiful metaphor, where wishful thinking is passed off as reality.
We are all passengers on a spaceship called Earth. For four and a half billion years it has been traveling through space, and its biosphere has been evolving, improving and changing. This is only possible because the Earth is not a closed system. The constant exchange of energy with outer space allows our planet to maintain a negative entropic balance and creates the necessary conditions for chemical, biological and social evolution in the geosphere. This is what science states. Planet Earth, together with living and non-living nature, is a complex independent ecosystem capable of supporting life. We all know that life in the world requires three important elements to exist: water, heat and food. Now add to that a factor called entropy. It plays an important role in determining whether a given planet can support and develop complex life. Everything living and non-living in the universe tends toward entropy.It was physicist Rudolf Clasius who first spoke of the Universe tending toward entropy. He made dire predictions that entropy would lead to the death of the universe based on the second law of thermodynamics. It states that in a closed system, entropy will increase until it reaches equilibrium. Clasius believed that the universe is constantly striving towards a state of thermodynamic equilibrium and will perish as soon as it is reached. Thus, the universe is constantly going through cycles of destruction and creation of new planets and stars.
....I woke up one night and happened to glance at my painting of Gaia that hangs on my wall. Strange metamorphoses were happening to the painting. Shadows from the curtains, wind and moonlight were falling on the painting, creating the illusion of movement. And Gaia turned from a young woman into an old woman. I saw the birds turn into skeletons, the water turn black, and the old woman open her mouth and devour all living things. The painting "spoke" to me, revealing its secrets, from Gaia to Medea devouring her children. The planet is hungry, it is hypnotically beautiful and hungry. It attracts and does not let go, it creates itself from what comes from outside and from itself. A living system must export entropy to keep its own entropy low.It's partly reminiscent of the mystical ouroboros. An eternally living predator devouring itself, but it also generates itself every second. He is life and death, the process of endless rebirths. It turns out that we - the children of the Earth behave the same way? There's a term for that - anthropocene. The term "Anthropocene" was coined to describe the era in which humans became the main driver of environmental change. While scientists are debating whether a new geological epoch should be officially recognized in the Earth's history, the fact remains that rapidly increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are affecting the climate and reducing biodiversity, while overconsumption of natural resources is causing irreparable damage to nature. However, no effective solutions have yet been found. How have human societies been able to trigger changes of this magnitude in the functioning of the Earth's ecosystems? Is this an inevitability inherent in our evolution and a natural pattern in the Cosmos? My stream of consciousness, and reasoning took bizarre metamorphoses, I wanted to draw and share these observations with you .In my cycle of metaphorical works "Entropy of the Earth" I draw changes, and the animation creates the infinity of the cycle: creation-destruction. The last sketch of the cycle ends optimistically. My question is to the Universe, to one of its avatars, the Cosmic Sphinx that appears in the place of the Earth. I got the answer to my question together with the cosmonaut. And you?

To create a series of metaphorical works "Entropy of the Earth", I use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator programme. I place all six works so that you can see all the stages of change.
Metamorphosis. Entropy of Planet Earth
Работу "Лик Земли-Гея" я нарисовала в далеком 2000 году, для экологического форума "Планета - наш общий дом".( 65X53 см, акварель, тушь, темпера, бумага). Были выпущены плакаты и календари с изображением Земли. Меня вдохновила гипотеза Гайи, предложенная в 1970 году британским климатологом Джеймсом Лавлоком в сотрудничестве с американским микробиологом Линн Маргулис, согласно которой Земля - это "динамичная физиологическая система, включающая в себя биосферу и поддерживающая нашу планету в гармонии с жизнью на протяжении более четырех миллиардов лет". Таким образом, все живое на Земле образует огромный суперорганизм - его называют Геей, в честь богини из греческой мифологии, олицетворяющей Землю. Разве это не прекрасная гипотеза о живой Земле? Как художник, я не могла пройти мимо такой возможности и не воплотить ее в своем творчестве.
Мы все знаем, что для того, чтобы иметь жизнь в мире, вам нужны три важных предмета: вода, тепло и еда. Теперь добавьте к этому фактор, называемый "энтропией". Он играет роль в определении того, может ли данная планета поддерживать и развивать сложную жизнь. Все живое и неживое во Вселенной стремится к энтропии. О том, что Вселенная стремится к энтропии, впервые говорил физик Рудольф Клазиус. Он сделал мрачные предсказания о том, что энтропия приведет к смерти Вселенной, основываясь на втором законе термодинамики. Он утверждает, что в закрытой системе энтропия будет увеличиваться, пока не достигнет равновесия. Клазиус считал, что Вселенная постоянно стремится к состоянию термодинамического равновесия и, достигнув его, погибнет. Таким образом, Вселенная постоянно находится в циклах разрушения и создания новых планет и звезд..
..Однажды ночью я проснулась и случайно посмотрела на свою картину «Гея» , она весит у меня на стене. Странные метаморфозы происходили с картиной.. Тени штор, ветер и лунный свет причудливо падали на картину создавая иллюзию движения. И Гея из молодой женщины стала превращаться в старуху. Я увидела как птицы превращаются в скелеты, воды чернеют , а старуха открывает свой рот и пожирает все живое. Картина «говорила» со мной, открывая свои секреты, из Геи , превратилась в Медею, пожирающую своих детей. Планета голодна, она гипнотически красива и голодна. Она притягивает и не отпускает, и она создает себя из того что приходит со стороны, и из себя самой. Живая система должна экспортировать энтропию, чтобы поддержать собственную энтропию на низком уровне.Это частично напоминает мистический уроборос. Вечно живой хищник пожирающий себя, но он же и порождающий сам себя ежесекундно. Он есть жизнь и смерть, процесс бесконечных перерождений. Получается, что мы -дети Земли ведем себя так же? Для этого есть термин -антропоцен. Этот термин «антропоцен» был придуман для обозначения эпохи, в которую человек стал главным двигателем изменений окружающей среды. Пока ученые спорят о том, следует ли официально выделить в истории Земли новую геологическую эпоху, факт остается фактом: стремительное увеличение уровня парниковых газов в атмосфере оказывает воздействие на климат и приводит к сокращению биоразнообразия, а чрезмерное потребление природных ресурсов наносит природе непоправимый вред. Однако эффективных решений до сих пор не найдено. Как человеческие общества смогли спровоцировать в функционировании экосистем Земли перемены такого масштаба? Является ли это неизбежностью, заложенной в нашей эволюции и естественной закономерностью в Космосе? Мой поток сознания, и рассуждений принял причудливые метаморфозы, мне захотелось нарисовать и поделиться с вами этими наблюдениями . В своем цикле метафорических работ «Энтропия Земли» я рисую изменения , а анимация создает бесконечность цикла: созидание-разрушение. Последняя зарисовка цикла заканчивается оптимистично. Мой вопрос к Вселенной , одному из ее аватаров- Космическому сфинксу, который возникает на месте Земли. Космонавт задает вопрос о жизни и смерти во Вселенной и бесконечных циклах планет , звезд и галактик. Я получила свой ответ вместе с космонавтом . А вы?
